Mindfulness has recently received much empirical validation in academic communities, as an effective psychotherapeutic intervention. As a result Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other mindfulness therapies are regularly used in mainstream settings such as the NHS. This workshop comprises an experiential introduction to Mindfulness therapies, including exercises taken from MBCT, ACT, and Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR).

The day will cover:

  • 'Mindfulness' as a multi facetted concept, as understood in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other mindfulness oriented therapies such as Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR).
  • Practical applications of mindfulness including methods from MBCT, ACT, for responding to the effects of stress or other challenging psychological situations.
  •  An experiential understanding of mindfulness through the practice of these methods.

By the end of the course you will:

  • Understand experientially the concept of Mindfulness from three different angles.
  • Understand experientially how mindfulness is applied in various empirically validated mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapies.
  • Have examples of methods from the three approaches that you could use with clients
